In those times tea, coffee and cocoa were considered a healthy option in contrast to alcohol, which was considered bad for health. So John became successful in his business and decided to open up the business on a commercial scale with a large warehouse.Cadbury became successful in supplying almost 16 varieties of drinking chocolate to the customers. After a long history of successful business John finally retired in 1861 and handed over the business to his sons. The introduction of “cocoa essence” in 1866,which was an unadulterated version of cocoa, resulted in mass popularity of Cadbury further. This became possible when the brothers were able to buy a Dutch cocoa presser, which extracted much cocoa butter from the beans. In this way,the need to add starches was upheld and now the brothers were able to advertise and label their product as Absolutely pure. The year 1875 was a challenging year for Cadbury brothers as Swiss milk chocolate dominated the market.Daniel Peter who experimented adding milk to his chocolate bars became way ahead of Cadbury brothers.

When the factory became small in front of their infinite future plans,George decided to shift to a new place,a place where an industry doesn’t look gloomy and uninviting but full of nature’s beauty and glamour. They bought land and named the factory “Bournville” in 1893.This was followed by building 143 cottages further at Bournville.
